So ugly it's cute...

Lately I've been toying a lot with an old story of mine. Those of you who've kept up with my art for a reeeeally long time might remember a four-page comic tester called Ghost of Man that I did way too long ago for it to be even remotely worth pursuing. The story wasn't bad though, and I'd like to do something with it, even if it only amounts to silly sketches.

The main character has the same name (Lorlo), but is otherwise completely changed in appearance. I decided to draw him again last night, and in the process I ended up giving him some sort of creepy little pet. Now, Lorlo and his kind have lived underground for thousands of years, so any pets they might have aren't exactly going to be the cute and fuzzy sort. Even so, this little guy kind of ended up looking so ugly that he became cute...

I wanted to give him a gross-sounding name. Gloop or Glop or Slag or Zit or something along those lines. I ended up calling him Gak in a sort of tribute to one of the all-time best childhood toys. It was gross, it smelled awful, and it made fart sounds when you put it back into its container. I think this character shares all of those attributes and then some.

You'll no doubt see more sketches of hairless, wrinkly little Gak. And perhaps other characters from Ghost of Man too, even if they are temporarily less interesting...
